Royal Vopak

Royal Vopak is a Netherlands-based independent tank storage operator. Through Vopak Terminal Durban, it is a principal commercial partner in the proposed Richards Bay LNG terminal.

Royal Vopak is an independent operator of tank storage terminals. Vopak says its Vopak Terminal Durban business and Transnet Pipelines were selected to develop and operate the proposed LNG terminal at Richards Bay. [1][2]

History

Vopak Terminal Durban signed the Terminal Operator Agreement with TNPA in February 2025 for the proposed ZET terminal. Vopak’s published 2025 statement expected an investment decision during 2026 subject to customer commitments; Reuters later reported in March 2026 that the company expected to be ready to take the investment decision in the first quarter of 2028. Key milestones

  1. Selected with Transnet Pipelines as preferred bidder for the Richards Bay LNG terminal concession. [2]
