Patrice Motsepe is the founder and chairman of African Rainbow Minerals and president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). CAF elected him to the presidency in 2021 and re-elected him in 2025. [1][2]
Biography
CAF records Motsepe’s birth on 28 January 1962 and identifies him as South African. Before building his mining interests, he was a partner at the Johannesburg law firm Bowman Gilfillan. CAF’s biographical record traces his move into mining to the purchase of low-producing gold mine shafts in 1997. [1]
He founded African Rainbow Minerals and African Rainbow Capital. His work in football has included the presidency of Mamelodi Sundowns, which CAF dates to 2003. These roles link his business career with the administration of South African and continental football. [1]
